Shandong province approved 2,728 foreign direct investment projects in 2000 with a total contract value of US$5.074 billion, an increase of 63 per cent over 1999 (see Table 7.15.4).

Among the FDI projects approved in 2000, 107 were in primary industry, 2334 in secondary industry and 278 in tertiary industry. Hong Kong was the largest source of investment in 2000, investing US$1.43 billion in 472 projects. Korea ranked second, with a total investment of US$980 million in 1,012 projects.
