Foreign direct investment increased by 33 per cent in 2000 in terms of total FDI contract value, mainly in equity and contractual joint ventures . The contract value of wholly foreign-owned enterprises was reduced by 49 per cent (see Table 7.5.2).

Among the 95 FDI projects approved in 2000, 80 projects were in production and 15 in the service sectors. They were mainly in ten sectors, such as the manufacturing industry, agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry and social services.
The sources of FDI for Inner Mongolia came from 26 countries and regions. The leading investing countries and regions are listed in Table 7.5.3.
