Searching on the Web

You can browse the Web to your heart's content by using Excel to start Microsoft Internet Explorer. You don't have to leave the program and start Internet Explorer or any other browser you might normally use. First, you need to connect to go online, and then just use the Web toolbar in Excel. You can enter a uniform resource locator (URL) and search for a specific Web page or browse around the Web at any time.

URL graphics/newterm_icon.gif Stands for Uniform Resource Locator ; similar to a filename or address. The Web uses it to locate the Web page.

Using the Web Toolbar

To display the Web toolbar in Excel, right-click any toolbar and choose Web from the shortcut menu. Excel docks the Web toolbar above the Formula bar.

Figure 24.2 shows the tools on the Web toolbar that are for browsing pages backward and forward, refreshing the current page, searching the Web, storing Web pages in the Favorites folder, and entering a URL.
