Q&A

Q1:

I changed the font color several times and didn't care for the results. Is there an easy way to return to the original black text?

A1:

Sure. Select the cells , click the Font Color down-arrow button on the Formatting toolbar, and choose Automatic.

Q2:

When I shaded my cells with black, why couldn't I see my text?

A2:

Use the Font Color command to select white or a light color for the text.

Q3:

After I added an outline border to my worksheet, why is the border so hard to see?

A3:

Outline borders can be hard to see because the gridlines are displayed onscreen. To turn off the gridlines, choose Tools, Options and click the View tab. In the Window Options section, choose Gridlines and click OK.

Q4:

How do I remove two of the borders in a box?

A4:

To remove two borders in a box, you need to use the Border tab in the Format Cells dialog box. In the Border preview diagram, click each border you want to remove. The border in the diagram disappears. Click OK to confirm your changes.

Q5:

Are the colors in the Fill Color palette on the Formatting toolbar the same as the ones on the Patterns tab in the Color section?

A5:

Good question! The answer is yes and no. Here's the yes answer: The 40 color patches in the first grid on the Patterns tab and the 40 color patches in the grid on the Fill Color palette on the Formatting toolbar are the same. The no answer is that the second grid ( beneath the 40-color grid) on the Patterns tab contains 16 additional color patches that are mixed colors. You get more color choices on the Patterns tab.

Q6:

I filled some cells with color, and now I've changed my mind. How do I remove the color from the cells?

A6:

Don't sweat the small stuff. It's easy to remove the color. Select the cells, click the Fill Color down-arrow button on the Formatting toolbar, and choose No Fill.

Q7:

I applied an AutoFormat table format to my table, and it's not what I want. How do I remove the AutoFormat?

A7:

To remove a prefab format, select the table and choose Format, AutoFormat. Scroll to the bottom of the format sample palette and choose None to remove the AutoFormat.
