Know that for a small number of clients, it is appropriate to use the Microsoft Windows Update site directly. To control which updates are deployed to the clients, you will need to use SUS. Along similar lines, you should also decide which server or servers will be responsible for downloading the updates from Microsoft and on what schedule.

Remember that you can use the Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer (MBSA) to audit the security patches and configuration of computers. Make sure you know when to run the MBSA interactively by using the command-line version and launching it via script or schedule.
