If you're having printing problems on your Mac OS X Server, your main troubleshooting resource is the print logs. Every time a queue is modified or a print job is processed, the information is written to the print logs. The logs include print accounting information that isn't available in any other administration tool.
1. | Launch the Server Admin tool from /Applications/Server (Figure 7.44), and authenticate as the administrator.
2. | Select the Print service, and then click the Logs tab at the bottom of the window.
The Logs frame appears. By default, it shows you the Print Service log (Figure 7.45). This log includes general print service information, including adding/deleting print queues, starting/pausing print queues, starting/stopping the print server, and print service error messages.
3. | Click the Jobs tab .
The Jobs frame appears.
4. | Click the Show pop-up menu, and choose a printer queue to view its log (Figure 7.46).
5. | The Logs frame shows the log file for the selected print queue (Figure 7.47).
This log lists print-job details such as user name, print job, and number of pages. Held and deleted print jobs are also reported.
