Lesson 4. Integrating Mac OS X With Third-Party Directory Services
If your network uses a directory service other than the one provided with Mac OS X Server, don't worryyour Mac OS X computers can still integrate with that system. This lesson introduces several third-party directory services and explains how to integrate Mac OS X clients with them. Since each directory service is different, Open Directory includes plug-ins to interact with them. To integrate Mac OS X with these services, you just need to configure the appropriate plug-in and address the attribute differences between Open Directory and the third-party directory service. Binding a Mac OS X computer to an Open Directory server is a straightforward task requiring very little configuration. Connecting a Mac OS X computer to other directory servers requires a bit more work, but by following a simple, methodical approach, you can bind a Mac OS X computer to almost any LDAP server. You can also use third-party directory services to provide network home folders and client management policies. |
