A bounded area in which a name can be resolved. In the AD, the namespace is equal to the directory tree, and DNS is used to resolve names.
Naming Context. The AD unit of replication. The AD supports three naming contexts, and all objects fall into one of these contexts. Objects are then replicated according to the boundaries established by the contexts.

The Windows NT LAN Manager challenge/response authentication mechanism. NTLM is the standard authentication mechanism used in Windows NT 4.0 and supported in Windows 2000 and 2003. If applications don't support Kerberos, a DC automatically downgrades and attempts to use NTLM to establish credentials.
