Summary

 < Free Open Study >

In this chapter, you read about how PAM works with the operating system and how to configure it. You learned about the types of information PAM requires for its configuration and the way in which that information is structured in the files. At this point, you should be able to read and understand the functioning of any PAM configuration file you come across.

At this point, you've now seen two chapters' worth of configuration. You've seen two very different software applications, which provide two perspectives on similar problems. After you've read the next four chapters, you'll have seen examples of the most common ways of configuring software, and you'll be well prepared for any installation task set before you.
