Acknowledgments

 <  Day Day Up  >

Anyone who's ambitious (or foolish) enough to sit down and write a book accumulates many debts along the way. It's our pleasure to acknowledge those here.

The team at Que ”senior editor Stephanie McComb, development editor Laura Norman, copy editor Margo Catts, and production coordinator Tonya Simpson ”have been outstanding. It's hard enough to shepherd a single author through the exacting process of technical publishing, let alone four. Stephanie and her crew have doubtless been taxed by our unruliness (we imagine the term "skunk herders" has come up now and again) but have remained unfailingly patient and gracious. Their hard work and expertise has smoothed away a thousand rough edges, has made murky ideas clear, and clear ones transparent.

We had able assistance from many friends and colleagues along the way. In particular, Greg Lane, Roger Jacques, Liz Chilton, Carlos Ramirez, Jan Jung, Aaron Holdsworth, and Thomas Andrews all made important technical contributions. Numerous other friends and family provided moral support and listened to our lamentations along the way, including Rebecca Moore, Molly Connolly, John Overton, Adrienne Vasquez, Bill Bennett, Kim Fenn, and Bethany Albertson.

Working with a new version of a product, especially one with as many changes as FileMaker Pro 7, provides many challenges. We are grateful to the participants of several early testing groups for sharing their ideas and discoveries, some of which have been the basis for ideas and examples contained herein. Many individuals at FileMaker, Inc. are deserving of thanks for answering questions ("Is that a bug or a feature?") and going out of their way to help make sure we had the latest, greatest versions to work with. We'd like to make special mention of the FileMaker documentation group , who produced some superb documentation for the new version.

We were also fortunate to have an extremely talented crew of technical editors. Jay Welshofer, Andrew LeCates, and Debi Fuchs all brought their prodigious talents to bear in picking over our facts and technical details one by one. Any errors or omissions that remain are our own.

In addition, Chris would like to thank Steve Lane for quarterbacking this project through to completion. It was a long, hard trip, and Steve carried the largest load and really made it happen.

The most important debt, though, is to our families, who endured the sight of far too many closed office doors and late nights over the time it took to write this book. We promise not to do it again soon.
