Markers and Locators

 <  Day Day Up  >

One of the best ways to move around in your song is by using markers and locators. The VS-1680 has 64 locators and 1,000 markers. Markers are used differently from locators on the VS-1680. You will basically use the LOCATOR buttons to jump from one part of your song to another. The markers will be used for a variety of different reasons, such as defining sections of a song for loop recording, storing Automix data and CD indexes, and marking points used for punch-in recording.

You can use a total of 64 locators per song. The VS-1680's 64 locators are organized into eight banks. Each bank has eight locators. This feature is very handy when you want to quickly move from one destination to another within your song during recording or mixing. Each LOCATOR button can be assigned a single time location within your song. Pressing that particular LOCATOR button will move you instantly to the stored time. A nice way to use this feature is to assign each part of your song to a LOCATOR button. For example, you can assign the intro to one locator, the first verse to another locator, the chorus to a third locator, and so on until you have each section of your song assigned to a different LOCATOR button.

To switch from one bank of LOCATOR buttons to another, do the following:

1.
Press the BANK button. The LOCATOR buttons now serve as bank changing buttons. The flashing LOCATOR button indicates which bank is the active one. So if LOCATOR button 1 is flashing, that means bank 1 is active. If LOCATOR button 2 is flashing, then bank 2 is active, and so on.

2.
Press the LOCATOR button for the bank you want activated. If you want to make bank 1 active, press LOCATOR button 1. If you want bank 2 to be active, press LOCATOR button 2. You can select all the way up to bank 8. After a bank locator is selected, the bank's indicator light goes out.

3.
To return to the previously indicated bank, press the BANK button again and then the LOCATOR button to the corresponding bank you wish to activate. For example, if bank 1 is active and you want to get to bank 1, press BANK and then press LOCATOR button 2.
