TIP 163: Customizing HTML Export

Clicking the Export to HTML button in the toolbar or choosing Export to HTML from the Package menu as described in Tip 162 opens an Export dialog box. In this dialog box you can choose to export the current page, the entire document, or a selection of pages. In the first two options, click the appropriate radio button. To export a selection of pages, type in the page numbers of the pages you want to export, such as pages 3-5 or 2, 5, 7 (Figure 163a). If you would like to link the pages together, you can also enable the checkbox next to Use Template. This will drop the pages into a pre-made template that includes Previous and Next links so that it's easy to navigate through the exported pages (see sidebar).

Edit the Template for Previous and Next

In order for the Previous and Next links to work, you need to use the pre-defined template generated by the Package. You can find the page inside the Accessories folder that the Package creates and style it however you'd like. But don't change the content of the file or you may lose the Previous and Next links.

When you click OK, a Save dialog will appear allowing you to choose the location for the folder which will contain the exported pages. GoLive helpfully names the folder based on the name of the InDesign package. Save the folder into your site's root folder. GoLive exports the pages and shows the status of the process in the Exporting Pages dialog (Figure 163b). When the process is complete, click OK.
