Chapter 13: Introduction to Server-Side Programming

 <  Day Day Up  >

Overview

The last chapter hinted at the move from static Web pages to a more dynamic paradigm. The Web is undergoing a shift from a page-oriented view of the world to a more program-oriented view. The Web uses a client-server programming model in which some programming logic is executed by the client user agent ”usually a Web browser ”and some executed on the Web server. This chapter begins with an introduction to Web programming technologies as they relate to HTML/XHTML and focuses on server-side programming. The following chapters will continue the discussion, but with a focus on client-side scripting technologies and object technologies.
