Chapter 9. Construction Details

This chapter describes the technical details of the PSP Tools project during our Construction phase. The chapter is similar to Chapter 7, which describes the technical details of our Elaboration phase. If you aren't interested in the code or testing details, you can skip this chapter without losing anything from the "PSP Tools story."

The major technical issues discussed in this chapter are:

• Fine-tuning the user interface ” As we progressed, we found additional surprises in the Swing classes and discovered new techniques for improving the user's experience.

• Finishing the database ” We started by using the Cloudscape database in a "server" mode. We found out how to use it in single-user mode and then had to decide how to let the program decide which was appropriate.

• Testing ” We added a tester at the end of the Construction phase. This section describes how we used testing tools, presents some of the scripts, and shows some of the results.
