Opening the Frances Project

First, let's open the 9-1 Frances start project, located in the Lesson_09 folder.

1.

Close any open Motion projects; then change the File Browser to List view.

2.

In the File Browser, open the Lesson_09 folder; then open the project 9-1 Frances start.

This is an updated version of the Frances project that you finished in Lesson 7.

3.

Choose File > Save As and save your project in the My Motion Projects folder on the Desktop.

I've made a few modifications to the project since your last visit. Let's take a look at the Layers tab to see what I've changed.

4.

Press Cmd-4 to open the Layers tab in the Project pane. Then click the disclosure triangle for the Movie layer to view the layer contents, if they're not already visible.

What do you think of the new Movie layer with the Frances Movie object inside? As you can see, I've done a little baking since you last worked with this project. What did I bake? A fresh, new QuickTime file of the finished project. Notice that all of the other layers in the project have been turned off. Why? Because now that you've finished the visual portion of this project, there's no sense making the computer calculate all of those layers, objects, and effects parameters if it doesn't need to.

The process of exporting a finished portion of a project as a movie file and then bringing it back into a project is often referred to as bakingjust like baking in a kitchen. Once you have all of the ingredients mixed together properly, you bake the dish. You then combine all of the baked dishes to create the final meal. You'll learn more about exporting files in Lesson 11. For now, just be aware that you're watching the finished QuickTime movie file in the Canvas rather than all of the individual layers, objects, and effects.
