Adding a Filter to Text

With the behaviors, drop shadow, and gradient, the WATER text object has really come to life. If only we could make it ripple like it's actually made of water. Why not? You can also apply filters to your text, including distortion filters like Ripple. Let's try it. First, let's change the play range Out point so that we can isolate the WATER text object in the mini-Timeline.

1.

Press Shift-O to move the playhead to the end of the WATER region in the mini-Timeline.

2.

Press Option-Cmd-O to set the play range Out point to the playhead position.

3.

Press the spacebar to preview the new play range in the Canvas.

Now let's add the Ripple filter from the Distortion category of filters.

4.

On the toolbar at the top of the Canvas, click the Add Filter pop-up menu and choose Distortion > Ripple.

5.

Press Cmd-S to save your project.

Now that's water text.
