Saving Particle Systems in the Library

The last project turned out so well, it would be a shame not to save it. In fact, that same particle system would look really good in the Master Project. If you want to save your favorite particle systems that you create or modify, all you have to do is drag the Emitter object from the Layers tab to the Favorites folder in the Library. Favorites are stored as part of your Motion preferences, so you can use them in any future Motion project. Let's try it.

1.

Press Cmd-2 to open the Library tab in the Inspector.

The Favorites folder is located near the bottom of the upper pane in the Library.

Before you add the emitter to the Favorites folder, let's name it Leaves Life Cycle.

2.

On the Layers tab, double-click the Emitter object's name field and type Leaves Life Cycle; then press Return.

The name of the emitter changes to Leaves Life Cycle on the Layers tab.

3.

Drag the Leaves Life Cycle particle emitter from the Layers tab to the Library and drop it on the Favorites folder.

The Leaves Life Cycle emitter appears in the lower pane of the Library.

Emitters that you create or modify and save as Favorites include a little icon of a person's head next to the Emitter icon to show that it was customized by you, the Motion user.

Congratulations! You now have a working knowledge of particles and can start adding them to your own projects.
