Adding the Two Video Clips to the Project

In this project, we'll be using two clips. One is of the subject of the piece, the actor who is moving in "real time." The other clip is the "rest of the world." This clip is the one that we will be speeding up. In fact, the original clip is almost three minutes long. We'll be speeding this up so that it matches the "real time" clip and will be, then, merely 10 seconds. Three minutes of action condensed down into ten seconds. This will be one fast-moving crowd!

Import the Two Clips

Start Premiere Elements and create a new project called fasttimes.

Click OK.

Click the Get Media from button on the Media panel to access the Get Media from view, if it's not already active.

Select DVD, Digital Camera, Mobile Phone, Hard Drive Camcorder, Card Reader.

When the Media Downloader displays, click the Advanced Dialog button to switch to Advanced mode.

Select the following clips:

  • manypeople.avi

  • oneperson.avi

Click the Get Media button. Premiere Elements copies the clips from the DVD onto your hard drive and adds it to the Available Media list for this project.

Acquiring A Greenscreen for Your Projects: Web Sources for Greenscreens

After you've mastered this technique, you'll want to use it with your own clips. Creating greenscreen clips requires a greenscreen (or bluescreen) for the background. While any solid green surface will work for a greenscreen or bluescreen, such as a sheet, for best results get yourself an industry-approved greenscreen. If you search on "greenscreen" using your favorite Web search engine, you'll find a lot of different makes and models to choose from. Through-out this book, we've been using greenscreens and stands and other equipment from www.chroma-key.com. They supply a variety of blue- and greenscreens, portable and studio stands, and even greenscreen paint.

Add the "Background" Clip to the Timeline

Drag the manypeople.avi clip from the Available Media view of the Media panel and drop it onto the Timeline in the Video 1 track. Be sure to line up the start (head) of the manypeople.avi clip with the beginning of the Video 1 track.

Tip

If you're in Sceneline view, drop the manypeople.avi clip onto the first scene box. Premiere Elements will place it on the Video 1 track.

Add the "Foreground" Clip to the Timeline

Click the Timeline button on the My Project panel to switch to Timeline view, if it's not already the active view.

Note

We need to switch to Timeline view because we are working with multiple video clips and need to view mulTiple video tracks.

Drag the oneperson.avi clip from the Media panel and drop it onto the Timeline in the Video 2 track. Again, be sure to line up the head of the oneperson.avi clip with the beginning of the Video 2 track.
