Building Your Star Wars Logo

Building Your "Star Wars" Logo

Every Star Wars movie had its instantly recognizable opening logo, and every good parody (or homage) should have it, too. Creating the logo is straight-forward. You'll use the Titler to enter the text. Here we are using "Snow Wars." In the future, when working on your projects, remember to keep your "logo" short and sweet. Your "logo" should echo the Star Wars logo in terms of word length, such as "School Wars," "Beach Wars," "Tennis Wars," "BBQ Wars," and so on. You don't even need "Star" or "Wars" in the title; for example, "Spelling Bee." Just be sure you use the font from this chapter. The font is so recognizable that people will understand the reference right away. In addition, the logo behaves a certain way (static and bigger than full screen for the first few seconds, then drifting out to vanish in deep outer space). By following these few simple rules, everyone will understand the reference.

Setup Your Logo in the Titler

With the Current Time Indicator (CTI) at the home position (the very beginning of the Timeline), click the Add Text button on the Monitor panel.

The Add Text default text is automatically selected. Type over it with this text:

snow

wars

Tip

Type the name in lower case. Be sure to press the Enter key on your keyboard after the first word so that each word is on its own line.

Highlight the text you just typed by dragging your mouse across it, or by pressing CTRL-A on your keyboard.

Right-click on the text and from the contextual menu, select the Star Jedi Hollow font.

Tip

Depending on the number of fonts installed on your computer, you may have to select More at the top of each list of fonts to navigate to the Star Jedi Hollow font.

Adjust and Stylize the Logo

We need to adjust the size of the text until it nearly fills the screen. To do so, on the Properties panel, enter these settings:

  • Font Size: 333

  • Leading:-218

Adjust the text justification by clicking the Center Text button.

Center the two words on the screen this way:

  • Click the Vertical Center button.

  • Click the Horizontal Center button.

Click the Color Properties button.

Select a yellow color by enter these settings:

  • R: 255

  • G: 255

  • B: 0

Click OK.

Relocate the Snow Wars Logo

Finally, move the Snow Wars title clip to its proper location on the Timeline. To do, first select the Snow Wars clip.

Timesaver

When moving and aligning clips, use the CTI has a guide. For example, in this case you could first move the CTI to the tail end of the "Short time ago" title clip so that it's at position 00;00;05;00.

Next, drag the Snow Wars title clip so that the head (front) of the clip aligns with the tail (end) of the two other clips.

Did You Know?

Turning Snap on makes your job easier. Make sure you have the "Snap" function turned on in Premiere Elements. This helps whenever you are aligning clips to each other, or clips to the CTI. There are three ways to activate the Snap function. One is to select it from the Timeline: MORE, Snap. The second way is to select it from the Premiere Elements menu: Timeline, Snap. The third and final way is to use the shortcut key: press the "S" key on your keyboard to turn Snap on or off.
