Animating the Opening Text

Now that we have our opening text created, it's time to animate it to look as if it's being typed, gradually appearing from left to right across the screen. At this point you could, if you wanted to, add a voiceover of yourself reading this text (using the Narration function in Premiere Elements), in imitation of the way Jack Bauer narrates these lines on the show. We won't be going to that length here because it's not absolutely necessary to do so for this effect to work.

Drag the Text to the Timeline and Apply a Transition

Click the Effects and Transitions button on the Media panel to switch to the Effects and Transitions view.

On the Effects and Transitions view, type wipe in the text box.

Select the Wipe transition and drag and drop it onto the front (head) of the Title 01 clip on the Video 1 track.

Note

You may need to scroll down a bit in the list of available wipes to find the Wipe transition.

Grab the tail end of the Wipe.

Note

Be sure you are selecting the Wipe, as shown in the illustration, and not the Title 01 clip itself.

Drag the Wipe until it's the same length as the Title 01 clip.

Did You Know?

You can add a narrator to the movie. To get the full 24 effect, you could use the Narration feature in Premiere Elements to add a narration track. To do so, click the Add Narration button on the My Project panel. When the Record Voice Narration panel opens, click the Record button. With your microphone, read the text, "The following takes place between the hours of 8:00 AM and 9:00 AM." When you click Stop, the narration clip will be added to both the Available Media list on the Media panel and the Narration track on the My Projects panel.
