Chapter 5.  Creating Tables

Many times you will need to create a Web page based on an existing design. Sometimes this design will be in print, and you'll have to make a Web version of it, or someone, or yourself could make a mock site in Photoshop. Whatever the case may be, Dreamweaver will enable you to place an image in the background that does not export, but enables you to literally trace over the existing design.

To create a tracing image, choose Modify, Page Properties. In the Page Properties dialog box, browse for a file in the Tracing Image text field, as shown in Figure 5.25.

Figure 5.25. In the lower area of the Page Properties dialog box, you can specify a tracing image.

After choosing a tracing image, you may want to take down the transparency of the tracing image so it won't compete with the foreground graphics that you'll be inserting into the document.
