In the Preferences dialog box, you can specify which external application you want to handle your image editing. To access the Preferences dialog box, choose Edit, Preferences. In the Preferences dialog box be sure to select the File Types/Editors category, as displayed in Figure 15.1. Here you can specify which application you would like to use to modify existing content within Dreamweaver. First, take a look at graphical file formats. You can set up which applications you're going to use to edit GIF, JPG, and PNG files. Remember that to select a particular application, you must have it installed on your system. Figure 15.1. In the Preferences dialog box, under the File Types/Editors category, you can specify which application you want to use to edit a particular file format. You also have the option of making an application primary; this is the application used by default to edit the selected graphic of the selected file format. However, if you contextual click the graphic inside of Dreamweaver, you'll have the option of selecting any other application you add to the list. To add an application to the list, follow these steps: -
Open the Preferences dialog box by choosing Edit, Preferences. -
In the Preferences dialog box choose the File Types/Editors category. -
In the File Extension scroll box, choose the file extension you want to pick an editor for. -
To the right, click the plus sign just above the Editor option box to launch the Select External Editor dialog box as pictured in Figure 15.2. In this dialog box, navigate to an application on your hard drive that you want to add to your list of editors. Figure 15.2. Choose an application you want to use to edit the highlighted extension. -
When you find an appropriate editor, choose Open. Notice in Figure 15.3 the new editor has been added to the list. Figure 15.3. After you open the application through the Select External Editor dialog box, it is added to the list. -
If you prefer to use the application you just selected as the default, highlight it in the option box and click the Make Primary button. Notice to the right of the application name, it reads (primary). This will act as the default editor when you ask Dreamweaver to edit that particular file type. |
