About the Author

Thomas R. Moore , MCITP, MCTS, MCSE, MCSA, MCSD, MCDBA, MCP, MCT, CSE, CTT+, has been in the computer industry for more than 25 years . Thomas has a wide variety of expertise in all hardware environments and with most Microsoft Server products. He achieved his MCSD and MCDBA certifications from their inception; completed the Microsoft CSE certification as a certified software engineer with Dexterity and Microsoft Business Solutions products; and, most recently, completed the new Microsoft Certifications for MCITP and MCTS on SQL Server 2005. Over the past 20 years, he has been working for a variety of Microsoft partners , and he is currently an intermediate developer/technical consultant with Diamond Municipal Solutions in Paris, Ontario, where he has been for the past four years. Among his myriad IT certifications, Thomas also holds certifications in English and business/technical writing. Thomas enjoys staying up-to-date, although like most of us, he finds it a challenge to keep up with the pace of the industry.

Acknowledgments

There are always so many people to thank on any significant project like this one that it is difficult to cover everyone involved without the fear of missing an important cog. Rest assured that all the hundreds of individuals directly or indirectly involved in the project all deserve a portion of the recognition for its completion.

First, I must thank my loving wife, Joy. You are a cherished part of my life, and I treasure your continued support and assistance in everything I do. I also thank my children, Daniel, Max, and Chelsea. As always, my family are the most deeply affected when I decide to take on yet another of my projects. The many hours that I spent typing away in the office were voluntarily given up by the people closest to me.

Next, I would like to thank the editors: Randy Cornish, with whom I have had the pleasure of working on other projects, came through as expected. Randy, you have an eye for detail, and you are, as always, the perfect technician. Kitty Jarrett proved to be an exceptional editor. This is the first project working with Kitty, and I hope I have many more. Kitty has a friendly approach, correcting my sometimes imperfect grammar. She improved on the content with a flair that is truly appreciated.

Finally, to the rest of the Que team. From the top down, the organization is professional, polished, and respected. I would like to thank Jeff Riley, the executive editor, for having faith in the project in the first place. Thanks also go to the rest of the editing team. The team survived a lot of diversity during the project and still came up with a top- notch finished product. Steve Rowe, Todd Green, and Betsy Brown were all a true pleasure to work with through the duration of the project, and Tonya Simpson, the project editor, really pulled things together and ensured that all the bases were covered.

It was a lot of fun, ladies and gentlemen. Let's all do it again sometime.
