Using Device Manager Driver Rollback Feature


First introduced in Windows XP, Driver Rollback enables you to uninstall or roll back the current drivers to the previous installed drivers. If a device you install fails or if your computer becomes unstable after you install a device, Driver Rollback enables you to restore the previous driver version.

To restore a previous version of a device driver, perform the following steps:

  1. Click Start, All Programs, Administrative Tools, Computer Management.

  2. In the Console tree, select System Tools, and then click Device Manager.

  3. In the right-pane, double-click the type of device you want to roll back.

  4. Right-click the device you want to restore to a previous state and then choose Properties.

  5. Click the Driver tab, and then click the Roll Back Driver button as shown in Figure 5.6.

You cannot use the rollback feature to restore previous versions of printer drivers.
