Exercises

  1. Add one or more system stamps/captions to the next video you create. If including multiple stamps, place them in different locations so that they don’t overlap. Use different formatting options for each one. After recording, preview your video. Does it look as expected?

  2. Record a brief video that showcases one or more application toolbars (any Microsoft Office product should work). Use the highlight feature to make only one of the toolbars visible, using the tip in the “Autohighlight and Highlight” section of this chapter as a guide.

  3. In a new recording, enter ScreenDraw mode. Draw a green squiggly line that’s 5 pixels wide. Make the next shape a translucent blue rectangle (frame) with 8-pixel wide borders. If you’re feeling adventurous, try changing these shape settings using only the keyboard shortcuts.

  4. Experiment with the various ScreenDraw effects in both record and paused modes. Preview your work. Which mode do you prefer?

  5. Edit your cursor effects (Effects Options > Cursor) to create a highlight cursor effect in the shape of an orange star. Similarly, change the color, shape, and size of one of your mouse click effects. Then, record a test video with the Highlight Cursor and Clicks tool enabled. Preview the results.

  6. Drag a few of the shapes from the default ScreenPad library onto your desktop. Now, import one or more of the sample images from this chapter’s folder into a new library, and place a few instances of those on your desktop. Try saving a group of shapes as a layout. Check your layout by closing all objects and then adding the layout to your desktop.
