In the process of creating a Website, you build new files as well as revise and replace old ones. Throughout the development phase, you might develop multiple versions of certain files or end up disregarding other files entirely. An orphaned file is one that is included with the site files, but is not used on your site. These files might be HTML files that have no links pointing to them, or images that haven't been used on any pages.
Deleting orphaned files can reduce the amount of disk space used by your site. It is particularly helpful to perform regular maintenance on large sites. Identifying and removing all orphaned files can have a great impact on the size of your site. When deleting orphaned files, be sure to thoroughly review the list of files. There might be necessary files that are needed on your site that are not linked to or used in any other file. For this exercise, do not delete any of the orphaned files listed. The files in the Yoga Sangha project site are needed for completion of this book's lessons. There are a number of broken links and orphaned files in the list of results because this project site is geared towards providing files to accompany the lessons and is not an actual site. |
