Customizing Album Views

Customizing Album Views

While time spent using the Capture Album is usually brief, Studio helps you get as comfortable as possible by providing options for customizing the view.

I've captured some 16:9 footage to illustrate 16:9 views in the Album. Figure 4.27 shows the Album post-capture in the default mode, which is Scene view with 4:3 images.

To switch between Scene and Comment views

  • Right-click anywhere in the Album and choose Comment View ( Figure 4.29 ).

Figure 4.29. Comment view, where you can annotate your scenes.

The Album switches to Comment view. See the following section, "Adding Scene Comments," to learn how to add comments to your scenes.

Note that if you click the Album in a gray area rather than on a picture, you get only the options shown in Figure 4.29. To get the complete list of options shown in Figure 4.30 , you must click a thumbnail.

Figure 4.30. Now in 16:9 mode, converting the project to the 16:9 aspect ratio.

To switch back to Scene view, right-click and choose Scene View.

To switch between 4:3 and 16:9 views

  • Right-click a picture in the Album and choose Aspect Ratio 16 x 9 (Figure 4.30).

The Album switches to 16:9 view. To switch back, right-click and choose Aspect Ratio 4 x 3.

Tip

  • Changing views does absolutely nothing to the captured file; it just changes the way that Studio displays it. It does not convert the file from 4:3 to 16:9, or vice versa.

Adding Scene Comments

If you want to rename or annotate your captured scenes to make them easier to find and use in your final production, go to the Album in Capture mode.

If you intend to add comments to your scenes, note that Studio updates the Album each time you capture, so if you start another capture before changing the scene comments, Studio stores the captured file and associated comments and clears the Capture Album to make room for the next capture. Don't worry; you can easily find your captured files and comments in the Album in Edit mode and edit your scene comments there (see "Working with Scene Comments" in Chapter 6).

To add scene comments to your captured video

1.

In the Album, slowly double-click the text immediately to the right of the Video icon to make it editable ( Figure 4.31 ).

Figure 4.31. To add or change scene comments, click the text twice slowly.

2.

Type the desired comment.

3.

Save your comment by doing one of the following ( Figure 4.32 ):

  • Press the Enter key on your keyboard.

  • Click anywhere outside the comment box on the Studio interface to set the comments.

Tips

  • You're not actually changing the file name ; you're editing text that can be seen only inside Studio.

  • If you plan to combine your scenes on the Edit tab of the Album, note that Studio blows away all screen comments when you combine scenes. You might want to look at "Combining Scenes" in Chapter 6 before you invest much time in naming your captured scenes.

Viewing Your Captured Video

If you're like me, the first thing you want to do after capture is watch the video. To do this, switch to Edit mode and use the Player.

To view your captured video

1.

Select the Edit tab at the upper left of the Studio interface (Figure 4.1).

Studio enters Edit mode.

2.

In the Album, double-click the video you want to play ( Figure 4.33 ).

Figure 4.33. Once you're in Edit mode, you can play your captured videos by clicking the icons in the Album.

The video starts playing in the Player.

3.

Controls beneath the Player let you stop, rewind, fast-forward, go to the beginning of the video, and move through each frame of your video.

Tip

  • If you capture using scene detection and the Album contains multiple scenes, the Player automatically plays from one scene to the next without breaks.
