#86 Using Premiere Pro vs. Encore DVDAdobe Encore DVD is an exceptionally feature-rich DVD authoring program that provides virtually unlimited artistic and navigational flexibility. You also get a fast and easy to use slide show creation tool, and playlists, which allow you to further customize the viewer experience. You can also burn your DVD on single or dual-layer media.
Premiere Pro's internal DVD authoring capabilities are similar to those of its consumer sibling, Premiere Elements. You can customize menus with images or video backgrounds, and add audio. However, if the selected template has three buttons per menu, you're limited to three buttons on that menu, which can frustrate your customization efforts. From a navigational perspective, Premiere Pro's authoring capabilities support sequential Scenes Menus from the Main Menu, with no menu branching. While you can link scenes directly to the Main Menu, again you're limited to the number of buttons supported on that menu. If you're trying to consolidate six scenes onto a single Main Menu, for example, you won't be able to do it. All that said, for many simple projects with limited customization, especially for consumer audiences, Premiere Pro's authoring features will do just fine and save you a rendering and authoring step. For more fully featured productions, you'll want to use Encore DVD, which is covered in Chapter 12. |
