Categories are groups of similar items on your handheld. Categories help you find people faster, schedule your day more effectively, and, in general, make mountains of info more manageable. Use categories in specific applications to group related information, like people in your book club, meetings with a certain client, or memos related to the same hobby. Cycle through categories To cycle through categories on the Home screen, tap the Home icon repeatedly. In Contacts, press the application button. |
Manage categories Create new categories In most applications, the category pick list is in the upper-right corner. Tap it, select Edit Categories, and tap the New button to make your own. Delete or rename categories Select Edit Categories. Tap a category and then tap Delete or Rename. When you delete a category, its entries move to the Unfiled category. Merge categories To merge the contents of one category with another, simply rename one or both of them. If they have the same name, their entries are automatically merged. |
Beam a category: Beam categories of contacts to another handheld | In Contacts, select a category from the pick list in the upper-right corner of the screen. | | Tap the Menu icon. From the Record menu, select Beam Category. |
To learn more about beaming with your Tungsten E handheld, see chapter 9. |
Don't overdo it If you create overly specific categories, they may turn out to be more trouble than they're worth. Check the contents of your categories every now and then, and consider deleting or merging categories that don't contain much. |
Calendar categories In Calendar, assign a color to each category. Events in each category will appear with that color in the various Calendar views. Tap an event and select Details. From the Category pick list, select Edit Categories. Tap the Edit button to change any category's color. |
Create new categories Many applications come with preset categories like Business and Personal, but you can change them to suit your needs. |
Category limit Most applications allow a maximum of 15 custom categories. |
All and Unfiled Two system-level categories, All and Unfiled, can't be altered. If you can't find something, check under the All category. |
Go to See chapters 5, 6, 10, 11, and 12 for more ideas and tips for using categories.
