CONTROL

The final and most important aspect of rescuing a failing task is control of the rescue project. A rescue project should not be treated in the same manner as the other work within the overall project. The team working on the project need to realize in their day-to-day routine that this is a different project to other projects. They need to have tangible methods of working that emphasize speed and control.

The most obvious way of emphasizing the control aspect is to hold daily meetings. These should occur at the same time every day and they should continue for as long as the rescue project is in place. Over the course of the project they will reduce into a short 10- to 15-minute review. The meeting should be based around a series of daily and weekly targets. These targets should be clear and measurable and should be attributed to one person. You should be blunt at these meeting to ensure that the team are very clear about what is required of them. You should ensure that they feel pressured to make sure the targets are met and that the overall task delivers to the new plan.

Despite the time commitment involved in attending and running a daily meeting you should be there personally . Your presence will emphasize to the team that this recovery project is being taken very seriously. Where things go wrong you should step in and help to ensure that they are put right. You should do everything possible to ensure that delivery is maintained .
