Registering a Website

Now that you have decided on a business name and registered it with your state, you may want to think about securing a website name and creating a website. Even if you don't think you want a website right now, you may want one later. Securing a website name is still inexpensive and will be available if you need it.

On the Internet, a website name is referred to as your domain name. Your domain name starts with "www" and ends with either ".com," .net," or ".org." To register a domain name for a business website, you will need to register the name with an accredited registrar. For a listing of accredited registrars, visit the InterNic website at www.internic.net.

Why you should consider a website for your business:

  • With more and more people going on-line, a website can be an important advertising tool.

  • Websites are accessible to your customers or clients 24 hours a day.

  • Unlike a magazine ad or brochure, a website can be updated or changed as often as you want.
