Honey, Stop Talking to Me

Don't have children? Spouses and significant others can be just as guilty of impinging on your time. If your spouse has the day off (or, in this day and age, if you BOTH work from home), he or she may love to wander into your work area to chat ”about your mother-in-law, about the new restaurant opening up down the street, or about the fact that the refrigerator is woefully empty. One work-at-home husband put it this way, "I love that my wife and I both work at home. But there are times when our different work styles drive me crazy. When I worked outside the home, she never called me at the office with what I consider trivial problems, like what we should have for dinner, or if there was a mechanical problem with one of our appliances, or whatever. But when we're both at home, even if she's in the spare bedroom on her laptop, she gets up frequently to just make conversation with me." Having different work styles is again about communication and coming to some sort of middle ground. How did this couple solve their problem? They designated a " lunch hour " to take together and get all their talking out then.
