Charles Oppermann is the founder and president of Copper Software, a software engineering and design firm specializing in directory services, user interface design, and the training of software developers. Charles recently retired from Microsoft Corporation, where he worked as a program manager and developer for several products, including Windows 95, Internet Explorer (versions 3 and 4), Windows 2000, and Exchange 2000 Server. For 5 years at Microsoft, Charles focused on creating adaptive and accessible user interfaces for people with disabilities and was the program manager and coinventor of the Microsoft Active Accessibility technology. Before joining Microsoft, Charles was vice president of development for Henter-Joyce, a company specializing in text-to-speech products for the visually impaired.

When not working at his computer, Charles enjoys hiking and flying his small plane, "Charlie Whiskey," around the beautiful Pacific Northwest. His next project is to earn an instrument rating for his pilot's license so he can fly during the rare rainy weather in the Seattle area.
