Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2003 enables you to create and organize slide shows, overhead transparencies , speaker notes, audience handouts, outlines, and more ”all in a single presentation file. Whether you want to deliver training, conduct a brainstorming or business-planning session, present a progress report, manage a project, or make a marketing pitch, you can use PowerPoint s tools to help you design, create, print, share, and deliver a powerful presentation.

For example, suppose Karen Berg, the owner of a fictional business called The Garden Company, wants to improve the name recognition of her company and promote its products. As part of her promotional efforts, she wants to provide gardening classes to increase product awareness and customer skills. Karen can use PowerPoint to create a series of professional-looking slides to accomplish these purposes.

In this chapter you will familiarize yourself with PowerPoint s working environment. You will open, save, and close an existing PowerPoint presentation, and explore various ways you can view slides. Finally, you will create and save three new presentations: one from scratch, one using the help of a wizard, and one using a design template.
