Finding Text in a Drawing

You often have to find a string of text to replace it or to simply locate a part of a drawing indicated by the text. AutoCAD offers the Find command to help you locate specific text in a drawing, including attribute values and dimension text. Here's how it works:

  1. Choose Edit è Find to open the Find And Replace dialog box, as shown in Figure 11.11.

  2. In the Find Text String text box, enter the text you want to find.

  3. Make sure Entire Drawing is selected in the Search In drop-down list.

  4. Click Find. If the text exists in the drawing, it appears in the Search Results list box. In addition, the label on the Find button changes to Find Next.

  5. If the text in the list box is not what you're looking for, click Find Next.

  6. When the appropriate text appears, click the Zoom To button to zoom into the text in the list box.

You can use the Find command to search for attribute text, table text, dimension text, and hyperlinks. If you click the Options button in the Find And Replace dialog box, the Find And Replace Options dialog box appears, allowing you to finetune the search criteria (see Figure 11.12).

This is where you can specify whether the search is case sensitive or whether to search for whole words.
