If you've gotten this far, you could probably used a good coffee break right about now. This chapter's material is probably the densest in the entire book. If you're having some difficulty understanding it, don't worry ”this stuff isn't easy. It sure isn't all about Remoting and Web services either. But I find it exciting to have this level of network functionality and capability in such an accessible package.

I hope you now have a sense of how much you can do with the .NET Framework's networking classes. At almost every level, you have the opportunity to slap on your own protocol or extend existing ones. From an enterprise perspective, all of this is crucial when you have preexisting custom protocols that your brand-spanking-new Visual Basic .NET application must interoperate with.
