Q&A

Q1:

eBay offers templates for creating interesting-looking web pages. Why not just use those?

A1:

Ah, looking for the easy way out, huh? Although it's true that you can get a decent look out of the standard eBay templates, you'll ultimately end up with an item page that looks a whole lot like a bunch of other item pages. Why bother learning HTML and CSS if you don't use them to put your own unique stamp on the Web? Perhaps more important, you probably know better than anyone else what is unique about the items you sell on eBay. Use that insider knowledge combined with your newly honed HTML and CSS skills to craft some eye-popping auction pages.

Q2:

It's a pain creating my own item images. Can I just use images of similar items that other people have already listed?

A2:

Technically, yes. Ethically, probably not. Although you do occasionally see some stock item images that were likely acquired from a manufacturer's web site, many of the item images on eBay are photographs that were taken by the seller of the item. In both cases, the photographs are properties of their respective owners, and are therefore off-limits for you to "borrow" and use. If you should get permission or otherwise decide to use a stock image, be sure to copy the image and host it on your own web server.
