Summary

This chapter covered the two tools supplied with Tomcat that allow you to manage the server remotely: the manager application and the admin application. The manager application provides you with a user-friendly Web interface that you can use to manage Web applications. Through this interface you can deploy new applications, undeploy old applications, start them, stop them, and list them. The manager application also comes with a stripped-down interface that you can use with scripts and Ant.

You can use the admin tool to work with Tomcat’s configuration files, such as server.xml and tomcat-users.xml. Again, it’s a Web interface, and you can access it and use it remotely.
