Task 3: Playing a Sound with Sound Recorder

Click Start, All Programs, Accessories, Entertainment , and then select Sound Recorder .

The Sound Recorder window appears. Click the File menu, and then choose Open .

From the Look in drop-down list, select a folder that contains sound files. (To sample one of the Windows sounds, select the Windows\ Media folder.)

INTRODUCTION

You can use the Sound Recorder to play back and record sounds. You can record your own sounds and insert the sound files into your documents for clarification or interest. You can play back any of the sound files on your computer. To use Sound Recorder, you need a sound card and speakers , which are standard on nearly all newer computers.

Double-click the sound file you want to play.

Click the Play button to hear the file.

When finished, click the Close button to close the Sound Recorder window.

TIP

Record a Sound

You can record sounds using Sound Recorder. To do so, you must have an audio input device (microphone) attached to your PC. Click File , choose New , and then click the Record button graphics/06inl01.jpg and record your sound. To stop recording, click the Stop button. To save your sound, click File , and then choose Save As .

TIP

Can't Hear?

If you cannot hear the sound, try adjusting the volume on your speakers or on your keyboard.
