infrared port

A communications port, usually found on notebook computers and some printers. Infrared ports enable two devices to communicate by using infrared light waves instead of cables.



insertion point cursor

The blinking vertical bar you see inside a text box or in a word-processing application, such as WordPad. It indicates where the next character you type will appear.



Internet

A network of networks that extends around the world. You can access this network by setting up an account with an Internet service provider.



intranet

The implementation of Internet technologies for use within a corporate organization rather than for connection to the Internet as a whole.



IR

Short for infrared.

ISP

Stands for Internet service provider. The company that provides access to the Internet. You dial and connect to this network. You have access to the entire Internet through the ISP's network.
