THE MEETING ALARM

If somebody asks you to a meeting you should find out:

  • What is the objective?

  • What preparation is required?

  • Why do you need to go? (The first two questions should make this clear. If you have to ask this question, it is in itself a danger sign.)

  • How long will it last?

  • Who is the chairman?

If you cannot get straightforward, punchy answers to these questions, then I suggest the meeting is likely to be a total waste of time, and you should refuse to go. (Clearly it is up to you to decide if internal politics require that you should attend anyway!)
