ABOUT THE AUTHOR

   

Fergus O'Connell graduated with a First in Mathematical Physics from University College Cork, Ireland. His 25 years ' experience “ 22 of those in project management positions “ cover commercial data processing, microprocessor-based office automation systems, computer networking, data communications and telecommunications. He has worked with companies such as CPT, ICL and Retix, before founding ETP in 1992. ETP is Ireland's largest project management company specializing in knowledge and high-tech industries. Fergus is currently Chairman of ETP. His experience covers projects in Australia, Britain, Denmark, Germany, Ireland, Luxembourg, Sweden, Switzerland and the United States. He has taught project management on three continents.

Fergus is the author of three books on project management: How To Run Successful Projects II “ The Silver Bullet (Prentice Hall, 1996), How To Run Successful High-Tech Project-Based Organizations (Artech House, 1999) and How To Run Successful Projects In Web-Time (Artech House, 2000). The first of these, sometimes known simply as "The Silver Bullet," has become both a bestseller and a classic. This year, 2001, will see the publication of two further books: Managing e-Projects for Rapid Business Value (Addison-Wesley) (co- authored with Professor John Brackett) and Simply Brilliant: The Competitive Advantage of Common Sense (Prentice Hall).

Fergus has written on project management for The Sunday Business Post , Computer Weekly and The Wall Street Journal . He has lectured on project management at University College Cork, Bentley College, Boston University and on television for the National Technological University.

He lives with his wife, son, daughter , three dogs, two horses, three ponies and a donkey, beside the River Barrow in Ireland.
