Sometimes, the Restrict Value Range dialog box doesn't list the field that you want to search with. If you need to get to the Selection of Search Methods dialog box again (to pick an alternate matchcode), click the New Search icon (see Figure 8.5).
Matchcode W is a great one to use for materials, because you can use it to show only the materials stocked at your plant. If you're seeing a lot of Material XXXXX not stocked at plant YYYYY messages, maybe this is the matchcode for you.

SAP R/3 also allows you to search text fields by using wildcards . For example, if you don't know a product number for the material you need but do know it was something for a motor, you could use a wildcard to find the material code (see Figure 8.6).

Although there may be many matchcodes for a single field, they all point to the same table of values. There are just different ways of searching that table. Some other ways of opening a matchcode list include the following:
