Conventional Source Archives

If you really want to do everything on your own and for whatever reason do not want to use CVS, you can go to http://download.gnome.org/ for tarballs of each package. Choosing this path means that you need to unpack, configure, and compile each package by hand.

This isn't the easiest way to install the system; GARNOME provides a much easier and preferable alternative in most cases. However, if you are really determined, you can go to http://www.karubik.de/gig/ for guidance on how to install the packages and for the current release notes for the library installation order.
