Breaking the XP Rules

I l @ ve RuBoard

Use all of the advice just given as a guideline. We have tried setting up the perfect XP lab, and the team used it far differently from what we had expected. We built a pair programming area with two huge monitors on each table, but each day the team was still working in pairs at their desks. We would have done a better job by just giving each person one of the huge monitors and forgetting our fancy lab.

As the XP coach of your team, your job is to get them to try new things and learn from what works. To do this you will force some practices on them that they will chafe under, but you need them to experiment. Don't force too much change on them too fast unless they are receptive. In the end go with what works ”you won't be forced to turn in your XP membership card if you break a few XP rules.
