Chapter 6. Script Content

Chapter Objectives

  • Introduce the language and its applications

  • Review built-in functionality

  • Explain how scripts execute

European Commerce Applications Script was designed to extend declarative markup content with a procedural language. ECMA Script is based on several originating technologies, the most well known being JavaScript (Netscape) and JScript (Microsoft).

This chapter contains mostly information relevant to the third edition of the ECMA Script Standard. This chapter is intended to be self contained and consistent with the standard, yet sufficiently detailed to enable understanding how ECMA scripting engines work. When questions arise, the ECMA Script standard specification [ECMA] supersedes the content of this chapter.
