This chapter toured the new (and numerous) wizards and tools used to generate code and populate the newly incarnated TableAdapter. As you can probably tell, I'm not totally convinced that the TableAdapter is a universal solution for data access. I don't think Microsoft believes it is either. I expect we agree that it's an important tool when building simpler data access applicationsand many of the applications we build fall into this category. I've also found that the TableAdapter is ideally suited for use against the SqlCE SQL Server Everywhere database. That's because SSEv databases are designed to be (predominantly) single-user so many of the collision issues that the TableAdapter has a tough time with are avoided. I also think that over time the TableAdapter will be replaced again (and again) as Microsoft tries to build more universal solutions for specific problems and markets. The next chapter wanders into the darker recesses of the Visual Studio data tools. Stick togetherI don't want anyone to get lostand kid, don't drink out of that puddle! |
