Exam Questions

1.

You are the network administrator for FlyByNight Airlines. The network consists of a single Active Directory domain. The functional level of the domain is Windows 2000 native. All network servers run Windows Server 2003, and all client computers run Windows XP Professional.

The network includes a printer named FlightSchedules1. Some of your users report that they are often unable to access this printer. You discover that the problem occurs whenever more than 10 users try to connect to the printer.

You need to ensure that all appropriate users can access FlightSchedules1. What should you do?

A.

Decrease the length of the printer name.

B.

Raise the functional level of the domain to Windows Server 2003.

C.

Purchase additional client access licenses.

D.

Move FlightSchedules1 to one of the servers.

2.

Dave is the system administrator for a large law firm. He has to manage 20 servers and 10 print servers in addition to 400 desktops. To streamline the printing of large documents, Dave has set up an empty office as a print center and installed four Behemoth 2000 printers. All four printers are similarly configured. Unfortunately, one of the printers is heavily used while the other three see little usage.

Because the contract from Behemoth has a rider that charges Dave extra for exceeding a certain amount of use, he wants to balance the usage across the four printers as closely as possible.

What can Dave do to more efficiently use his printers?

A.

Create multiple logical printers.

B.

Create a single logical printer with four drivers.

C.

Create a single logical printer with four ports.

D.

Set the priority on all printers to 25.

3.

You work in a mid-sized advertising agency. You have a color printer that is lightly used, but it should always be available for the account managers to use because they sometimes need brochures in a hurry. What's the best way to accomplish this?

A.

Configure two logical printers that are assigned to the same printing device. Assign different priorities and groups to each printer.

B.

Buy another identical printer. Set up a printer pool that contains both printers.

C.

Configure the printer so that only the account managers have access to it.

D.

Instruct the other users on how to kill their print jobs when an account manager needs the printer.

4.

Don is the system administrator for a mid-sized company. He needs to delegate some of his trivial duties so that he can get more of his important work done. He decides to delegate some of the document-management duties to some of the administration assistants. What default group can he make them a member of so that they can manage print documents, without giving them too much authority?

A.

Server Operators

B.

Power Users

C.

Print Operators

D.

Printer Operators

5.

The legal department of your company has a monthly print job that details the company's efforts to correct past human rights violations in third-world countries. This monthly print job is more than 1,000 pages, so it needs to be printed outside of normal business hours. What is the best way to accomplish this?

A.

Create two logical printers for a print device. Assign one with a priority of 99 and name it Overnight. Leave the other with the default settings. Use the Overnight printer for the monthly report.

B.

Create two logical printers for a print device. Assign one with a priority of 1 and name it Overnight. Configure the other with a priority of 99. Use the Overnight printer for the monthly report.

C.

Create two logical printers for a print device. Assign one with a priority of 1 and name it Overnight. Set the hours available on the Overnight Printer to 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. Configure the other with a priority of 99. Use the Overnight printer for the monthly report.

D.

Buy another printer and dedicate it to the monthly print job.

6.

Frank works for a manufacturing company that has 30 servers running Windows Server 2003, 600 Windows NT workstations, 700 Windows XP Professional workstations, and 200 Windows 98 computers. The main print server is running Windows Server 2003 and is used to support several color printers. The printers are shared from the print server, with drivers loaded for all the client machines.

The manufacturer of the color printers releases new drivers with more features. Frank installs the updated drivers on the print server. After getting everything set up, Frank tests printing from the clients and notices that whereas the Windows NT and XP clients seem to support the new features, the Windows 98 clients do not. What is the most likely cause of the problem?

A.

Frank installed the wrong drivers on the print server.

B.

Frank did not install the Windows 98 drivers on the print server.

C.

Frank needs to install the drivers on the Windows 98 clients.

D.

Frank needs to restart the Spooler service so that the Windows 98 clients are recognized.

7.

Install another hard drive and move the spool folder to it.

D.

Buy another printer and dedicate it to the monthly print job.

8.

None of the above.

Answers to Exam Questions

1.

D. Because the magic number is 10, it is most likely that the printer is shared on a Windows XP client. That would lead to a situation where the Windows XP client computer allows only up to 10 connections at the same time resulting in users being unable to access FlightSchedules1 when the 10 connections are full. Moving the printer to a server computer will allow more concurrent connections. Because the domain doesn't have any Windows 9x clients, the length of the printer name isn't a problem. Because this is obviously a connectivity issue, the functional level of the domain is not the cause of the problem. Because the licensing service doesn't block connections, this is not a CAL problem. See "Managing Software Site Licensing" in Chapter 5.

2.

C. To use a printer pool, all the printers must be capable of using the same printer driver, must be connected to the same print server, and should (for the convenience of the users) be located in close proximity to each other. See the "Printer Pooling" section for more information.

3.

A. You should configure two logical printers assigned to the same printing device and then assign the Account Managers group a priority of 99 on one logical printer and leave the defaults on the other. See the "Setting Printer Priority" section for more information

4.

C. Print Operators is the best choice. It gives them the ability to manage both documents and printers without giving them any additional administrative rights. The Server Operators and Power Users groups would give them more authority than they need. The Printer Operators group does not exist. See the "Assigning Print Permissions" section for more information.

5.

C. Windows Server 2003 allows you to create multiple logical printers that point to a single print device. Each of these logical printers can be configured differently and assigned to different users via permissions. In this case, when you print to the Overnight printer, it will hold the print job in its queue until its time window begins. See the "Scheduling Printer Availability" section for more information.

6.

C. Frank has to manually update the appropriate drivers on the Windows 98 clients. Unlike Windows NT and later, which automatically download new and updated drivers when they connect to the print server, Windows 98 clients must have the print drivers updated manually. See the "Scheduling Printer Availability" section for more information

7.

C. After looking at the hardware configuration of the server, you see that the weak link is the hard drive space. The print server is performing poorly because the spool files are filling up the hard drive. To improve performance, the spool folder needs to be moved to another hard drive. The other solutions listed would just make the problem worse by requiring even more space on the hard drive. See the "Working with the Print Spooler" section for more information.

8.

A, D. The Manage Documents permission allows them to pause, resume, start, delete and configure any document related settings. The Manage Printers permission would, among other things, give them the ability to pause the printer, which is not desirable. See the "Assigning Print Permissions" section for more information.

9.

D. Allowing the HR manager the ability to manage documents and printers would allow her to pause or cancel other people's print jobs so that she could print, but that's not a good solution. The best solution is to set up another logical printer with a higher priority so that her print jobs are printed before others. The default priority is 1, the highest is 99. See the "Setting Printer Priority" section for more information.

10.

D. Although a custom print filter in the PMC would solve the problem, the PMC wasn't available in SP1; it is part of the R2 release. The other MMCs mentioned, don't have a custom filter for printers. See the "Using Printer Filters" section for more information.
