Installation Folder Setup

This section discusses the preliminary steps you must take before running the InstaFox Wizard. Every time you are ready to create an installation, you need to follow this procedure.

  1. Create an installation folder for the application you are going to install. Whenever you are ready to create a new install, you will create a new installation folder. For demonstration purposes, we call ours E:\DemoInstall.

  2. Copy the entire InstaFox Installer application into this newly created installation folder. Figure 1 shows the new installation folder E:\DemoInstall with the InstaFox Installer files copied into it.

Figure 1. Our new sample installation folder E:\DemoInstall with the contents of D:\InstaFox\InstaFox copied into it (including subfolders ).

    Note ‚

The InstaFox installer application is found where you originally installed the InstaFox installer tool. For demonstration purposes we installed ours on the D drive. Figure 2 illustrates the folder for the InstaFox Installer tool, D:\InstaFox\InstaFox.

Figure 2. The InstaFox Tool folder D:\InstaFox\InstaFox.

    Note ‚

You do not need to copy the InstaFox Wizard application into this folder unless you will be making modifications to the InstaFox Wizard source code.

  3. Build the application folder (APPDIR). The APPDIR folder is where all of the files to distribute should be placed. Figure 3 demonstrates our sample DEMOINSTALL APPDIR folder structure.

Figure 3. The APPDIR folder structure.

  4. Place the files needed by the InstaFox Installer itself in the APPDIR folder. Here is a list of files required by the InstaFox Installer.

  5. - RICHTX32.OCX

  6. - FOXTOOLS.FLL

  7. - SHORTCUT.DLL

  8. - REGSVR32.EXE

  9. - VFP run-time files for the version your application needs and the InstaFox Installer (VFP7R.DLL and VFP7RENU.DLL or VFP8R.DLL and VFP8RENU.DLL, etc.)

  10. Copy any optional files you may need. These files are only required if you specified them in the InstaFox Wizard. These files must be in the root of the APPDIR folder (not in a sub-folder). The names of these files must match the name you specified in the InstaFox Wizard. Some samples of optional files are found below:

  11. - License Agreement document ‚ must be an RTF formatted document - Graphic to display on the screen during installation - Icon used by your application.

  12. Wizard files. The APPDIR folder must contain a folder called WIZDIR that has all of the InstaFox Wizard tables (files starting with ‚“wz ‚½) in it. These files tell the InstaFox Installer what to install and how to do the installation.

  13. Your application files to be installed. The files you want installed must be placed in the APPDIR folder. These files should be arranged exactly as you want them installed, including the directory structure.

The resulting APPDIR folder structure for our sample demo application should look like the folder structure in Figure 3.
