Using Paste Attributes

 < Day Day Up >

Fireworks retains the stroke and fill of the last selected object. This means that if you draw a line and change the stroke, then the next line you draw will look the same as the last line. If you switch to the Rectangle tool, then the rectangle you draw will have the same stroke attributes as the previous line. This ability to pick up the attributes of an object is very handy when you want your new objects to have the same look as a previous one.

When you have objects already on the page that you want to look the same, you can use the Paste Attributes command to copy the stroke, fill, and effect from one object to another.

1.

Open the attributes.png file from the Media folder within the Lesson 04 folder. Select the line and choose Edit > Copy.

Not only are you making a copy of the object, but you are also copying the attributes of the object.

2.

Select the rectangle and choose Edit > Paste Attributes.

The rectangle takes on the look of the first line. The shape is not changed only the attributes are copied to this object.

3.

You can close this file without saving.

Note

The ability to copy and paste attributes from one object to another also works for text. Select a text block and copy it. Then select the next text block and choose Paste Attributes; the formatting from the first text block is applied to the second one.
